Sculptra Aftercare: First 2 Weeks, Do's, Don'ts & Massage Tips
By Skinsation Aesthetics | September 19, 2026
Location: Colleyville, TX (Precinct Line Road corridor near the Southlake border)
The most important Sculptra rule in the first 48 hours is simple: hands off and heat off. Don’t press, pick, or rub the injection sites outside of the massage plan I give you, and skip heavy workouts and intense heat. Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating injectable that develops gradually, so what you do in these first days matters. I’m in Colleyville, right along the Precinct Line Road corridor, so if something feels “off” after you get home, you’re not on your own. I’ll also show you the massage technique before you leave so you don’t have to guess in the mirror later.
First 24–48 Hours After Sculptra: the do’s that prevent issues
Right after Sculptra injections, I generally want you thinking about two things: keeping inflammation calm and keeping the product evenly distributed.
Quick “Do” list (first 2 days)
- Start the 5-5-5 massage: 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.
- Keep skincare gentle: mild cleanser, simple moisturizer, and sunscreen.
- Use a small cold pack if you feel puffy. If you’re driving home along Precinct Line Road or hopping on SH-121, it’s an easy way to stay comfortable.
- Sleep a little elevated the first night if you swell easily.
Now the “don’ts.” Skip strenuous exercise for the first 24–48 hours. Elevated heart rate, sweating, and friction can make swelling linger. Also avoid intense heat like hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and really hot showers. And don’t plan a sun-heavy day. Colleyville’s late-summer weather runs hot and humid, so I’d rather you stay cool and out of prolonged sun for the first 48–72 hours.
I also recommend holding off on heavy alcohol in that first window, since it can worsen swelling and bruising for some people.
Days 3–7: keep the massage going and pause other treatments
This is the week where people feel better, then accidentally get a little too “back to normal.” Keep the 5-5-5 massage routine going through day five. It’s one of the best ways to prevent little lumps and help the product sit evenly. If you’re not sure you’re doing it right, I’ll demo it again in clinic. That quick hands-on check-in is often all it takes to feel confident.
What to avoid through the full 2 weeks
- Facials, microneedling, laser, and dental surgery near the injection sites unless I clear it for you.
- Strong actives that sting or peel if you’re still tender.
- Picking at any tiny bruises or bumps.
Heads up if you’re planning CO2 laser: I love pairing collagen-building strategies, but I want your timing to be clean. If CO2 laser is on your calendar, tell me your dates and I’ll space everything safely.
The 5-5-5 Sculptra massage: my step-by-step (no guessing)
Massage sounds easy until you’re standing in your bathroom trying to remember what I showed you. Here’s the simple version I teach. Use clean hands and a light slip, usually your moisturizer. You’re aiming for firm, controlled pressure, not aggressive rubbing.
How to do it
- Start where I injected. Use two to three fingers and make small circles over the treated areas.
- Work in sections. Spend about 60 seconds per area so you actually reach the full five minutes.
- Keep it even. Match the pressure on both sides of your face if we treated both sides.
- Stop if you’re hurting yourself. Tender is normal. Sharp pain is not. If you’re unsure, call me and I’ll talk you through it.
Why I’m so strict about massage: Sculptra is meant to stimulate collagen over time. The early massage window is about smooth distribution so you don’t end up chasing little nodules later.
If you came in for facial balancing, massage matters even more because small changes add up. I want your result to look natural, not obvious.
Skincare + habits that protect your Sculptra result (week 1 and 2)
You don’t need a complicated routine right now. Simple wins. A gentle cleanser, a basic moisturizer, and sunscreen every morning are my non-negotiables. If you’re dry or flaky, don’t scrub. Let your skin settle.
Try to avoid anything that spikes heat or irritation in the first two weeks. That includes long sun exposure, heavy sweating on hot Colleyville days, and harsh exfoliants. If you’re flying out of DFW soon, plan your Sculptra so you’re not dealing with swelling mid-flight. If you already booked and travel popped up, tell me. I’ll help you time your follow-up.
A quick note on makeup
I usually recommend waiting until the first day is done before applying makeup, and only if your skin looks calm and unbroken. Clean brushes. Light pressure. If you’re bruised, use gentle tapping, not rubbing.
When to call me: normal swelling vs. a real red flag
A little swelling, tenderness, and bruising can happen after Sculptra injections. Many people feel the most puffy in the first couple of days, then it gradually calms down. Small firmness under the skin can also show up, which is exactly why I harp on massage.
Call me if you notice increasing redness, warmth, worsening pain, drainage, fever, or swelling that ramps up instead of easing. Also reach out if you feel a lump that isn’t improving with the massage routine, or if you’re worried you missed the window and don’t know what to do next. I’d rather you ask early than sit at home stressing.
“She reaches out to check on you and has follow up appointments to make sure you are pleased with the result.”

Local check-in option: I’m an easy stop for commuters along Precinct Line Road and SH-121. If you’re coming from Southlake, Grapevine, Hurst, Bedford, or Euless, a 1 to 2 week follow-up or quick check-in is simple to fit in.
And yes, I do evening and weekend check-ins when I can. If your schedule is tight, let me know what you’re working with and I’ll help you plan it.
If you’re still researching, these may help: preparing for your first Sculptra, why Sculptra works for skin rejuvenation, and how collagen induced biostimulators fit into a long-term plan.
